Leading the Way in AI Batteries: TDK Plans to Launch Fourth-Generation Technology to Tap into the Smart Device Market
Japan's TDK Corporation says its industry-leading silicon anode battery technology is expected to be updated later this year, just as Apple and other electronics manufacturers launch new devices for the holiday season. Noboru Saito, CEO of the Tokyo-based company, said the firm has made significant progress in increasing charging capacity while maintaining the slim and lightweight design of devices. Currently, its silicon batteries are primarily used by Chinese smartphone manufacturers. He added that the company is seeking to expand its customer base and aims to capture a share of the growing AI device market, with its fourth-generation technology scheduled for release around September. With a wide range of new AI gadgets and tools expected to emerge this year, Saito believes the smart glasses sector is particularly rich with opportunities. Such products have the most significant demand for high energy density in a small form factor, and currently only TDK is capable of mass-producing high-end batteries whose space efficiency is already 15% higher than that of traditional graphite anode batteries.
