According to the National Health Commission, China’s health literacy rate reached 33.69% in 2025, an increase of 1.82 percentage points from 2024, continuing its steady upward trend. In 2025, the health literacy rate among urban residents nationwide was 36.68%, while that of rural residents was 30.58%, representing increases of 1.94 and 1.47 percentage points, respectively, compared to 2024. The health literacy levels for the six categories, listed from highest to lowest, are as follows: safety and first aid literacy at 58.18%, scientific health literacy at 53.83%, health information literacy at 50.83%, chronic disease prevention and control literacy (33.41%), infectious disease prevention and control literacy (32.42%), and basic medical literacy (32.22%).
