Meng Pu, Chairman of Qualcomm China: CES Highlights Edge and Physical AI as Key Areas for Breakthroughs in Artificial Intelligence
The 2026 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, USA, opened on the 6th, with artificial intelligence (AI) once again emerging as the central theme running throughout the event. In an exclusive interview, Meng Pu, Chairman of Qualcomm China, stated that AI has moved from the “conceptual” stage to a new phase of comprehensive implementation, with edge AI and physical AI emerging as key directions for technological breakthroughs. Discussing future AI trends, Meng Pu believes that AI will operate in tandem across the cloud, edge cloud, and device-side environments, with hybrid AI emerging as the mainstream form of the future. Device-side AI possesses inherent advantages in real-time performance, reliability, privacy protection, and energy efficiency, making it suitable for applications such as automobiles, wearable devices, and robots; Cloud-based AI, meanwhile, plays an irreplaceable role in large-scale training, cross-device collaboration, and continuous evolution. Sixth-generation mobile communication technology (6G) will also serve as a vital bridge between the cloud and the edge, helping to build intelligent networks with sensing capabilities.
