According to reports, the operation was led by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and supported by the U.S. military. Earlier that day, The Wall Street Journal reported that U.S. military officials stated the U.S. military had taken action to attempt to seize an oil tanker departing from Venezuela. The tanker was reportedly escorted by a Russian submarine during its voyage. Neither Russian nor U.S. officials have yet responded to these reports.
