Svmuu News: The heads of several major central banks around the world issued a joint statement on Tuesday in support of Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Jerome Powell, following threats by the Donald Trump government to bring criminal charges against him. In the statement, European Central Bank (ECB), the Bank of England, and nine other central bank governors stated: “We stand in full solidarity with the Federal Reserve system and its Chairman Jerome Powell.”They added: “Central bank independence is the cornerstone of price, financial, and economic stability, and is in the best interests of the people we serve.” The U.S. government’s criminal investigation ostensibly concerns Federal Reserve the renovation of the central bank’s headquarters, but Jerome Powell has called this a “pretext” aimed at giving the president influence over interest rates.
