Thrive Capital invests in OpenAI at a $285 billion valuation
According to The Wall Street Journal, people familiar with the matter revealed that Josh Kushner’s Thrive Capital recently invested in OpenAI at a valuation of $285 billion—roughly one-third of the valuation OpenAI is seeking in its current funding round. The deal, worth at least $1 billion, was completed last December. The deal was negotiated as part of an investment arrangement initiated early last year, allowing Thrive to inject capital into OpenAI at a discounted price for a limited period. Some sources described it as a call option that Thrive has exercised. The business magazine Colossus had previously reported that Thrive held a call option arrangement regarding OpenAI.
