U.S. Media: Iran Begins Laying Mines in the Strait of Hormuz
Svmuu News According to CNN, citing two individuals familiar with the relevant situation within U.S. intelligence agencies, Iran has begun laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz. The current scale of the mine-laying operation is not extensive, with only a few dozen mines deployed in recent days. One of the sources indicated that Iran still retains 80% to 90% of its small boats and minelaying vessels, making it entirely possible for its forces to deploy hundreds of mines in this waterway. Separately, a CBS News reporter, citing sources, stated that Iran is using small boats in the Strait of Hormuz, each capable of carrying 2 to 3 mines. While the exact number of mines Iran possesses has not been publicly disclosed, estimates over the years suggest its stockpile ranges between 2,000 and 6,000 mines.
