Svmuu News Iran stated that the U.S. warships "Frank E. Petersen" and "Michael Murphy" attempted to "infiltrate" the Strait of Hormuz the previous day. It further indicated that the U.S. warships exploited the cover of ceasefire conditions, both to create false propaganda of a "successful passage" and to influence the ongoing U.S.-Iran negotiations at the time.
Iran claimed that the two warships attempted to disguise themselves as Omani commercial vessels sailing along the southern coast of the Sea of Oman. They chose an extremely dangerous route very close to the coast with shallow draft, hoping to enter the Persian Gulf by "concealing" their tracks and taking advantage of the Iranian military's "negligence" during the ceasefire. The Iranian Navy ultimately intercepted them at the entrance to the Persian Gulf. The two destroyers, failing to enter the Strait of Hormuz, were forced to withdraw back to the Sea of Oman at the entrance. (CCTV News)
