Former Congressman George Santos is under investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice for profiting tens of thousands of dollars from insider trading at Kalshi
Svmuu News: The U.S. Department of Justice is investigating former Congressman George Santos for insider trading on the prediction market Kalshi. According to sources, Santos posted a video in February of this year stating he would attend President Trump's State of the Union address, but ultimately did not show up; prior to this, he had placed bets that he would not attend, profiting tens of thousands of dollars from the wagers. After Kalshi detected the suspicious trades, it froze his account and referred the case to both the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission and the Department of Justice, both of which have launched investigations. Santos has denied any knowledge of the investigations. George Santos was previously charged in 2023 with 13 counts of wire fraud, money laundering, and theft of public funds, and was sentenced to over seven years in federal prison, but served only four months after receiving a commutation from Trump last October.
