Svmuu News WHO spokesperson Christian Lindmeier said on May 8 that the World Health Organization has initiated response actions for the Hantavirus outbreak in accordance with the International Health Regulations. In addition to the cruise ship involved in this outbreak, contact tracing for potential exposures is also ongoing.
In response to public concerns about the transmissibility of the Hantavirus, Lindmeier emphasized that the Hantavirus is not highly contagious and does not easily spread from person to person. Some individuals who have had close contact with infected persons in this outbreak have tested negative for the virus, which is sufficient to show that the risk of the Hantavirus to the general population is very low.
