Volvo Cars is bringing back Thomas Ingenlath, the former CEO of Polestar, to oversee its vehicle design. The automaker is currently strengthening its executive team. Volvo announced on Wednesday that Ingenlath, 61, will lead the company’s global design department starting February 1. He has played a key role in shaping the design of both Volvo and its sister brand Polestar, and was involved in the design of core models such as the XC90 SUV, one of the first major models launched by Volvo following its acquisition by a Chinese company. Prior to joining Volvo, he worked at the Volkswagen Group. The appointment of the German-born executive comes ahead of Volvo’s upcoming launch of the EX 60, an all-electric midsize SUV expected to become a key member of its product lineup. The model is scheduled to debut in January and is built on a new platform designed to improve efficiency and reduce production costs.
