Recently, the Sichuan Provincial Medical Insurance Bureau issued a notice consolidating 82 pricing items for neurological medical services and clarifying the categories of medical insurance coverage. Among these 82 pricing items for neurological medical services are the brain-computer interface (BCI) medical service items and their prices for Sichuan Province. These government-guided prices serve as maximum price limits and took effect on April 30 of this year. Sichuan Province’s brain-computer interface medical service items are divided into two categories—invasive and non-invasive—comprising a total of three distinct items. Among these, the “Invasive Brain-Computer Interface Implantation Fee” item refers to the process of implanting a brain-computer interface system into the cerebral cortex or specific neural regions to collect neural signals in real time, thereby enabling information exchange between the brain and external devices. The prices for provincial-level public medical institutions are as follows: Grade A tertiary hospitals: 6,583 yuan per procedure; Grade B tertiary hospitals: 6,035 yuan per procedure; Grade A secondary hospitals: 5,486 yuan per procedure; Grade B secondary hospitals: 4,937 yuan per procedure; and hospitals below Grade B secondary level: 4,389 yuan per procedure. The established prices cover the human resources and basic material costs required for the following steps: surgical planning, preparation of the surgical site, disinfection and draping, localization, puncture or incision, brain electrode implantation, parameter adjustment, signal debugging and verification, fixation, and suturing.
