The General Office of the Guangzhou Municipal People’s Government has released the “Guangzhou Plan for Accelerating the Development of an Advanced Manufacturing Powerhouse (2024–2035).” The plan highlights the priority development of monoclonal antibodies, vaccines, blood products, and diagnostic reagents. By identifying new disease targets and biological mechanisms to discover more effective treatments, the city aims to advance its drug development pipeline from standard antibodies to more complex next-generation biologics (NGBs), thereby reducing the time and cost required for products to enter clinical trials and the market. Focusing on key areas such as gene editing and bioinformatics, the plan aims to empower the traditional pharmaceutical industry with disruptive technologies like synthetic biology and artificial intelligence, while advancing basic research, tackling core technological challenges, and independently developing key equipment and consumables. Support the development of cutting-edge innovative enterprises, with a focus on advancing the industrialization of antibody drugs, vaccine drugs, nucleic acid drugs, cell and gene therapies, and recombinant proteins and peptides. Prioritize the large-scale development of innovative biologics, biosimilars, and bio-based active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs).
