Paul Chan: Further Increase in Tax Allowances for Hong Kong Families with Married Couples, Children, and Elderly Dependents
Paul Chan, Secretary for Finance of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, delivered the 2026–2027 Budget to the Legislative Council today (the 25th). He stated that, starting from the 2026/27 tax year, the basic allowance and the single-parent allowance will be increased from HK$132,000 to HK$145,000, while the allowance for married persons will be increased from HK$264,000 to HK$290,000. benefiting approximately 2.09 million taxpayers and reducing annual tax revenue by about HK$3.56 billion; the child allowance and additional child allowance will be increased from HK$130,000 to HK$140,000, benefiting approximately 360,000 taxpayers and reducing annual tax revenue by about HK$680 million.
