Prosecutors in North Carolina have seized $61 million in USDT in connection with a "pig butchering" scam
Svmuu News: The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina announced that it has seized more than $61 million in USDT linked to a large-scale crypto investment scam known as a “pig butchering” scheme. According to the statement, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) tracked the flow of victims’ funds, identified multiple cryptocurrency wallet addresses suspected of being used for money laundering, and seized and forfeited accounts still holding substantial balances. Court documents reveal that the scammers gained victims’ trust by establishing fake romantic relationships, then lured them into participating in fraudulent high-yield crypto investment platforms, imposing additional “taxes” or restrictions when victims attempted to withdraw funds. Prosecutors noted that this case is one of several recent crypto asset forfeiture actions. In January of this year, the U.S. Department of Justice also announced the forfeiture of approximately $400 million in assets linked to the dark web mixing service Helix. (The Block)
