Spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce Answers Journalists’ Questions Regarding U.S. Trade Representative Greer’s Remarks on the Section 301 Investigation into China’s Implementation of the First Phase of the U.S.-China Economic and Trade Agreement
China hopes that the United States will view the implementation of the Phase One Agreement objectively and rationally, refrain from “shifting blame,” and certainly not use this as an opportunity to “stir up trouble” or “provoke conflict.” China is willing to work with the United States, guided by the important consensus reached by the leaders of both countries, to make full use of the China-U.S. economic and trade consultation mechanism. Looking to the future, we will focus on implementing the existing economic and trade agreements reached by both sides, actively explore areas of common interest, and move forward together. If the U.S. side insists on proceeding with the relevant investigation, or even imposes restrictive measures such as tariffs under the pretext of the investigation, China will take all necessary measures to resolutely defend its legitimate rights and interests.
