Svmuu News: According to Politico, officials from multiple departments within the Donald Trump administration are stepping up efforts to develop a legal strategy that would allow the government to retain billions of dollars in tariff revenue even after the Supreme Court rules that the tariffs were “illegally collected.”Several people familiar with the internal discussions said preliminary ideas include using policy measures to discourage companies from applying for refunds, preventing the government from actually paying refunds, or retaining at least a portion of the tariff revenue through other means. One proposal is to declare that tariffs collected over the past year constitute lawful revenue under a new tariff framework the administration is preparing to roll out under different legal authorities. Another option would allow companies to receive priority processing during what is expected to be a lengthy refund queue, provided they agree to forfeit a portion of their refund to the government.
