U.S. Court of Appeals Rejects Donald Trump's Request to Postpone Tariff Refunds
Svmuu News: The U.S. Supreme Court previously ruled that most of the tariff measures imposed by President Donald Trump’s administration were invalid. The Department of Justice subsequently filed an appeal with the federal appeals court, requesting an additional 90-day grace period to allow the executive and legislative branches time to consider their options, resulting in a total delay of approximately four months. However, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit has rejected the Department of Justice’s request, meaning the next steps in the tariff refund process can proceed swiftly. This ruling by the federal appeals court clears the way for the U.S. Court of International Trade, a lower court, to initiate legal proceedings related to tariff refunds.According to estimates by Department of Justice attorneys, the refund process could take several years to complete. Following the Supreme Court’s ruling, hundreds of new companies have filed tariff refund lawsuits, bringing the total number of tariff cases facing the Donald Trump administration to over 2,000.
