Economists: The duration and scope of the Middle East conflict, as well as the risk of regime change in Iran, remain unknown
Svmuu News: Anthony Willis, a senior economist at Columbia Threadneedle Investments, stated in a report that, from a geopolitical perspective, the duration and scope of the conflict in the Middle East—as well as how far the United States and Israel will go to bring about regime change in Iran without deploying “ground troops”—remain unknown. He said, “At present, it appears there is neither the will nor the resources to undertake operations beyond airstrikes.” He pointed out that in the absence of a credible opposition in Iran, if the U.S. and Israel succeed in overthrowing the current regime, “we may see a situation similar to that in Iraq and Libya, where the country descends into anarchy in the absence of a credible successor government.” (Jin Shi)
