JPMorgan CEO: Interest-bearing stablecoins should adhere to banking regulatory standards
Svmuu News: JPMorgan CEO Jamie Dimon said in an interview with CNBC that stablecoins offering yields should be subject to the same regulatory standards as bank deposits to prevent the creation of a parallel banking system. Dimon believes that if companies offer interest-like rewards on balances, they should be regulated as banks and meet requirements regarding capital, liquidity, and FDIC insurance. Legislators are currently debating provisions regarding stablecoin yields in the Crypto Market Structure Act, and banks are concerned that interest-bearing stablecoins could lead to a drain on deposits from traditional institutions. Jamie Dimon emphasized that JPMorgan supports competition and blockchain innovation, but a fair balance must be ensured.
