Hong Kong authorities have cracked a gold and silver smuggling case worth HK$230 million, marking the largest precious metals smuggling case on record.
Svmuu News: Hong Kong Customs announced that it recently cracked two cases of suspected precious metal smuggling via air cargo at Hong Kong International Airport, seizing approximately 168 kilograms of suspected gold foil and approximately 285 kilograms of suspected silver foil, with an estimated total market value of approximately HK$230 million. Based on the market value of the smuggled goods, this is the largest precious metals smuggling case ever uncovered by Customs. Under Hong Kong’s Import and Export Ordinance, smuggling is a serious offense. Any person who imports or exports goods not listed on the manifest is liable, upon conviction, to a maximum fine of HK$2 million and imprisonment for up to seven years. (Caixin)
