U.S. House Speaker: The White House is addressing the Greenland issue through diplomatic channels
On January 7 local time, U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson stated that he believes the White House is addressing the Greenland issue through diplomatic channels and does not believe anyone is discussing the use of military force against Greenland.Previously, White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt stated that Donald Trump’s team was discussing a “range of options” for acquiring Greenland, adding that the use of U.S. military forces “remains an available option.” Regarding these remarks, Johnson noted that the United States always retains a military option on any issue, but that this is merely a matter of principle.“I think that’s a general statement. On the issue of Greenland, it’s clear that we’re proceeding through diplomatic channels,” Johnson added, noting that he does not believe anyone is discussing the use of military force against Greenland.Johnson stated that the U.S. always reserves military options on all issues, but regarding Greenland, “it is very clear that we are handling this through diplomatic channels.” (CCTV)
