Battery Life Doubles: Chinese Scientists Achieve Pioneering Breakthrough in Core Lithium-Ion Battery Technology
Recently, a team of researchers from Nankai University, the Shanghai Institute of Space Power, and other institutions achieved a groundbreaking breakthrough. Through the use of a novel electrolyte technology, they have demonstrated the potential to double the battery life of existing lithium-ion batteries while maintaining the same size and weight, and to significantly enhance their low-temperature performance. This achievement was published in the international academic journal *Nature* in the early hours of the 26th. The core breakthrough of the new battery lies in its internal electrolyte. After years of intensive research, the team overcame key challenges such as the poor solubility of lithium salts in fluorine, synthesizing a series of novel fluorinated hydrocarbon solvent molecules. By regulating the electron density of fluorine atoms and the steric hindrance of solvent molecules, they have significantly reduced the amount of electrolyte required while achieving rapid charge transfer kinetics, thereby simultaneously enhancing both the battery’s energy density and its low-temperature adaptability.
